Eroica California 2022 - Bicycle Concours d'Elegance and Swap

The 2022 California Eroica Festival was held for the first time since 2019, and, again Cambria, California was chosen as the host city. My wife and I rented a beach cottage near Fiscalini Ranch and had a splendid weekend. I didn't do the ride on Sunday, but enjoyed much of what the festival had to offer. This time around, though, I didn't purchase anything at the swap as I had three years ago during my visit. I have too many parts sitting in drawers already.

As you can see, the bikes on display represented many of the finest around - brought here by collectors from far and wide. Ted Ernst, who just turned 90 a few days ago, was one of the judges. Few men his age have got the zeal and pep he does. Great to see Ted out there accompanied by another judge, looking over the minute details of these vintage beauties as he made his rounds - what a true classic and class act he is, himself, in so many ways.

I did bring a bike up here to Cambria to ride around. It's my newly-built Klein ebike conversion, and it was very helpful climbing the hills in this neighborhood - see photos, below. I look forward to coming back here again next year for another Eroica and more of the same beautiful bikes, wonderful scenery, and terrific people.

Vintage Bicycle Show - Manhattan Beach Grand Prix

Had a great time at the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix this morning. Not only was the racing action spectacular, (pics HERE), but the vintage bikes on display were equally inspiring.

Thanks to Ted Ernst for establishing this 3rd longest running bicycle race in the USA. This is the 52nd year and the 2nd oldest race is only one year older.

More pics from the show HERE.

1976 - 1979 NY Bicycle Show Photos

Found a link to photos of the New York Bicycle Show (1976 - 1979) on BikeForums.net so please leave a comment if the link becomes broken.

The photos are not mine; they belong to a Flickr user.

Great memories of a time when friction shifting and steel ruled the roads.

Click HERE for the pics. Enjoy!

2012 Cirque du Cyclisme - Leesburg, VA

2012 Cirque Results HERE.

2012 Cirque Results HERE.

I had a phenomenal time at the 2012 Cirque du Cyclisme and wish to thank Dale Brown, MJ, Wayne, and all of those who brought their wonderful bicycles to the show. It was great to put faces to so many of the names I've become familiar with on the CL List over the past few months. This was my first Cirque, and I hope to make this an annual event.

Twenty-five years ago I hung out with "cyclists," but they were competitive racers and had no real interest in their bicycles beyond how many grams they could shave off of them. I learned a lot about riding from them, but found no kinship in my love of the gear. The fine folks that I've met through the Classic Rendezvous Google Group (The CL List) and those at the Cirque love cycling as a sport, but also love these simple, elegant machines that we collect. It isn't about weight, it's about legacy, workmanship, creativity, and inspiration. I've found my people! :)

Many photos are online, and here's a sample:

From Dale Brown - click HERE and HERE.

From Thomas Adams - click HERE.

More of mine - click HERE.

Also, please check out Mike Kelly's blog HERE. He has taken the time to do a better job writing up the Cirque and has many nice photos as well.

If you have pics of the 2012 you'd like to share, leave a comment with the link to the pics and your name, and I'll add them to this post.

Thanks! Can't wait for next year!

Show of Steel Bikes - All the Photos

Here's a LINK to all the photos from the Show of Steel Bikes in Orange, CA last Sunday 12/4/11. A special thank to Jesse from TorelliFan Web site and his team/friends for making this show happen.

Jesse and I have been in touch since, and he's looking to bring another show to our area in the Spring. You can be sure I'll promote this and report on it for the VintageRacingBicycle.com community.

I've added captions to as many bikes as I could within the photos, as best as my memory allows. If you have any specific questions on a bike pic in this collection, shoot me an email or comment below and I'll do my best to find an answer. Thanks.

If you know of any other shows that highlight vintage road bikes, chime on in; we'd love to hear from you.

Here's the video animation of the photos. Enjoy!
